HOPE 01 Boss Fights and Loadouts
When to fight, what to print, and when to leave the bag at home.
HOPE 01 puts bosses inside the same Hab Cluster you loot, not in a separate match type. Steam sells “shoot and dodge your way through dangerous enemies and bosses,” and the Early Access build already contains numerous boss fights with more promised. This page is about not donating a backpack to a room you walked into because a scan prompt sounded interesting.
We will not invent boss names, HP bars, or phase charts that are not in public materials. The demo advertised a single boss in a tiny slice; the full Early Access blurb says numerous bosses and 60+ enemy types. Treat every unique door, clone-tank setpiece, and “procedure beginning” voice line as a boss threshold until proven otherwise.
If your bag is full, stop reading this and open How to Extract. Bosses do not despawn because you went and stashed.
The only boss rule that matters
Extract first if the bag has unscanned blues or a pile of fabrics. Then print a kit you can afford to lose. Then fight.
A boss kill with a dirty bag is a worse outcome than a boss flee with a scanned library. Blueprints are the RPG. The corpse is the highlight clip.
How you actually walk into a boss
Footage is consistent:
- A medical or story room with extra voice-over (clone detected, safety protocols, survival odds).
- A door that does not feel like a closet.
- A drop you cannot reverse.
- A sudden lack of ambient loot sparkles and a lot of space to dodge.
If you fell in with groceries, your options are fight, die, or find an extract on the far side. That is why the Hab Cluster Map tells you to look before you drop. One-way boss pits are extract traps.
Loadout for a planned boss
Print this at the hideout fabricator, not on the threshold:
- A scanned gun you understand. Rate of fire, muzzle velocity, reload, penetration. You want a gun whose mag you have already dragged full. See the Weapons Tier List.
- Spare mag, already loaded. Drag-reload in a boss wind-up is a wipe.
- Light. If the arena is dark, a utility flashlight means you are not shooting while you can see. A gun-mounted light, if you have the gadget, is a real upgrade. Gadgets.
- Calories and a heal. A caloric converter only works if you still have calories to burn. Eat before the door.
- Melee honesty. Space melee and knife-on-click exist because bosses and adds will close. Dodge (double-tap A/D) is the souls-like part of the Steam tags.
- Empty grid. You came to spend ammo, not to loot a sofa mid-phase.
Use the Loadout Checklist as a door test. If you cannot tick light, food, mag, and reprint, you are not ready.
During the fight
Play the controls, not the lore:
- Light the silhouette. Blind magazines feed the floor, not the boss.
- Dodge the tell, then shoot. Shift sprint is for entering the room, not for i-frames. Double-tap is the i-frame.
- Do not reload on their schedule. If the mag is dry, melee or create space with a dodge through, not a panic drag on the grid.
- Adds are extract insurance. If the boss summons hallway trash, the trash can still kill you after a sloppy win. Clear a path to the door you want.
- Listen for the raid timer anyway. A Manorial extract can expire during a long fight. Winning the animation and missing the rail is a very HOPE 01 joke. HUD clock, top of screen.
Penetration matters when the target is large, armoured, or standing in front of something you also want dead. RoF matters when the window is short. Muzzle velocity matters in wide arenas. If you do not know which of the four stats your gun has, you brought a floor drop, not a plan. Go back to Fabricator and print the workhorse.
When to leave the boss
Leaving is a skill:
- You are below a heal and the door still opens.
- The extract timer is real and the bag still has unscanned items (you should not have been here, but here you are).
- You do not understand the move that just hit you. Dying as a tuition payment is acceptable on a cheap kit. It is stupid on military fabrics.
- The fight is in a dark room and your only light is a hold-to-shine gadget you keep swapping. Come back with a mounted light.
Early Access will add more bosses; the developer listed boss fights among the things they want community feedback on, alongside fabric amounts and enemy balance. Today’s “I can brute force this” may be tomorrow’s “this eats kits.” Cheap reprints are how you stay in the conversation.
After the kill
Loot, but not like a magpie:
- Scan unique drops if a field fabricator is safe, otherwise leave through a known extract.
- Do not start a second boss because you feel tall.
- Stash, scan, print food. Then read whether the drop actually beats your gun on the four stats.
Story-wise, bosses sit on the road to HAB 01 and the multiple endings. Quest NPCs will throw you at them. That is campaign progress, which persists. The bag still does not. Combine a quest run with an extract plan from the Beginner Walkthrough so you are not improvising both a boss and a rail.
Cheap practice loop
Until you have a named boss you care about:
- Print the Early Loadouts budget kit.
- Run a district you already mapped.
- If you stumble into a boss threshold, decide in one second: bag dirty → leave; bag clean → fight.
- Extract. Even a flee is a successful raid if bricks come home.
Hands come from Controls. Routes come from Hab Cluster Map. Pride comes last.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Should I fight a boss the first time I see it?
Only on a cheap, scanned kit with light, food, and a loaded mag. If the bag is full of blues and fabrics, extract first via How to Extract.
How many bosses are in HOPE 01?
The demo had a single boss. Steam's Early Access description says numerous bosses already, with more enemies and boss fights planned. We do not publish a fake numbered list.
What gun should I bring?
A scanned weapon whose rate of fire, muzzle velocity, reload, and penetration you understand, plus a spare loaded mag. Rank options on the Weapons Tier List.
The room is too dark to fight. What now?
Leave and print a better light. Utility flashlights force a shoot/see swap. Gun-mounted lights are the Gadgets upgrade that makes bosses fair.
Do bosses reset if I extract?
Campaign progress persists; the Cluster is not a roguelike wipe. You can stash and return. Your run bag still drops if you die on the way back.
