HOPE 01 Hab Cluster Map Guide
Districts, extracts, darkness, and Metroidvania routing.
The Hab Cluster is HOPE 01’s entire outdoor map, indoor map, and dungeon at once: a deteriorating underground facility whose districts still wear the names of a working habitat. Steam asks you to explore that labyrinth, help survivors, and find the legendary HAB 01. This page is about not getting lost while you do it. The commentary run embedded here is useful because it shows how fast a “simple” medical corridor becomes a brutal loop when you do not know the next extract.
HOPE 01 plays like a Metroidvania that happens to use extraction rules. Shortcuts exist. Doors exist. Darkness exists. A full cartographer’s atlas would be a lie in Early Access — layouts and locks will grow with more quests — so we teach how to read the Cluster, not a fake complete floorplan.
How to think about the map
Stop imagining a raid lobby with one helicopter. Start imagining a side-scrolling city that folded in on itself:
- Districts have jobs. Medical stores clinical loot and medical fabrics. Bureau of Common Safety looks like administration and enforcement. Hab Rail is transit, which means extracts and also people who wanted to leave before you did.
- Verticality matters. W jump, S crouch, ladders, and drops create one-way mistakes. Look before you step off a ledge that might be a boss pit.
- Extracts are map features, not UI buttons. Manorial / rail timers live on the HUD; the platforms live in space. If you cannot walk to a platform in the dark, you do not “have” that extract.
- Knowledge persists. Dying does not wipe the save. Your next body still knows the stair. Use that. HOPE 01 is not a roguelike wipe.
Pair every exploration session with How to Extract. A new shortcut that dumps you past the only rail you knew is not a shortcut.
Named spaces you should landmark
Public footage and item text keep returning to the same signage. Use these as mental pins, not as a claim that they are the only biomes:
Medical
Wall boxes, clinical clutter, medical fabrics, and the kind of darkness that makes a flashlight mandatory. Players get stuck here because loot density is high and extracts are easy to postpone. Rule: if you cannot name the way back to Hab Rail, you have gone too deep for the current kit.
Interactable medical boxes are world objects. Close the inventory (B / Tab / Escape), look at the wall, press E. The Controls page exists because people fail this in a panic.
Bureau of Common Safety
Expect tighter security flavour, different enemy mixes, and quest hooks. Administration buildings in extraction games are never administrative. Treat every long hall as a crossfire and every locked door as a note for a later gadget or key, not as a thing to shoulder-charge on a full bag.
Hab Rail / monorail
Transit is hope and a clock. Learn what the rail posters look like in pixel art so you can spot them with a dying flashlight. When the Manorial timer is live, this is the district you wanted to already be in, not the district you start pathing toward.
Field fabricators and odd rooms
You will find fabricator hardware in the world, cloning-tank flavour, and rooms that exist to scare you into a boss. Scan if the timer allows. Do not build a house. Fabricator is a hideout chapter that sometimes visits the field.
Darkness as geography
Light is part of the map. Unlit rooms are fog of war with teeth. Until you own a gun-mounted light, a dark branch costs a utility swap. That is a real tax:
- Chart dark rooms on the way in so you are not discovering them on the way out with a timer.
- If two branches are dark, take the one that still has an extract you have used.
- Enemies you cannot silhouette are not “content”; they are ammo sinks. Light, dodge, then shoot.
Gadgets is where flashlight upgrades sit. Map skill does not replace a beam.
Routing like a Metroidvania
A good Early Access session has a theme:
- One new door. Not five. Unlock or note it, then extract.
- One new extract. Stand on it once so your hands know the path.
- One fabric colour. Medical run, public-brick run, or military run. Mixed greed is how bags explode.
- Backtrack on purpose. The genre fantasy is using a new gadget to open an old wall. If you only ever push forward, you are playing a hallway, not a Cluster.
Quest NPCs (the demo had a slice of one questline; Early Access advertises 50+ quests) will send you across districts. Accept the quest, then check whether your extract plan still works. Story rooms that sit behind a drop are boss-adjacent even when the journal is polite. Boss Fights covers walking into those rooms by accident.
Enemy geography
Sixty-plus enemy types is too many to list honestly. What you can list is behaviour versus space:
- Tight stairs favour melee and dodge. Space melee, knife on left click, double-tap A/D.
- Long halls favour muzzle velocity and not standing still.
- Dark rooms favour light discipline over RoF.
- Boss thresholds often hide behind a scan prompt, a unique door, or a medical setpiece. If the music or the clone-tank flavour starts talking, you are not in a loot closet.
Leave when the kit is still able to fight the route home. Mapping with 10 HP is how people write Steam reviews about the timer.
Practical pinboard (do this on paper if you must)
Because the in-game map will not hold your hand like a Ubisoft ping:
- Name your spawn relative to a rail.
- Note one medical box location (free loot you can grab on a dead run).
- Note one field fabricator (emergency scan).
- Note one bad drop (never again with a full bag).
- Note one locked door and the gadget or quest you think it wants.
That five-line list is more useful than a wiki claiming a complete HAB 01 atlas. When Early Access adds districts, add lines, do not throw the list out.
How this page connects to the rest of the wiki
- Learn to leave: How to Extract.
- Learn to see: Controls and Gadgets.
- Learn to spend the loot: Fabricator.
- Walk a scripted first-hours path: Beginner Walkthrough.
- Check whether the build added rooms: Updates Hub.
Find HAB 01 eventually. First, find the rail twice in a row without dropping your bag in a Bureau stairwell. The commentary video on this page is a warning, not a speedrun.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Is there a full interactive map of the Hab Cluster?
Not from us, and not honestly, while Early Access is still adding quests and rooms. Landmark extracts, medical, Bureau of Common Safety, and Hab Rail, then expand.
What districts exist?
Footage and in-world text call out medical areas, the Bureau of Common Safety, and Hab Rail / monorail, plus field fabricators and story rooms. Treat them as a web, not separate missions.
I missed my extract. Where do I go?
Another extract. How to Extract covers the Manorial timer. Do not camp an empty platform.
Should I explore every dark room?
Not on a full bag. Chart darkness on the way in, loot blues and fabrics, and leave. Light is a gadget slot until you mount a tactical flashlight.
Does dying reset the map?
No. HOPE 01 is a single-player RPG with extraction stakes. Map knowledge, stash, and scanned recipes persist; the run bag does not.
