How to Extract Safely in HOPE 01

Manorial timers, backup rails, and stash rules that keep loot.

How to Extract Safely

Extraction is the only scoreboard that matters in HOPE 01. Steam says it without poetry: find weapons, armour, and gadgets, survive to bring them back to your hideout, or die and lose it all. This page is the survival manual for leaving the Hab Cluster on purpose. If you still mix up stash and run bag, read Getting Started first.

HOPE 01 is single-player. Nobody is stealing your extract. The Cluster is. Timers, darkness, hunger, and the next enemy around a medical corner will do the job of a rival squad.

What “extract” means here

A run has three layers of ownership:

  1. On your body / in the run grid. Temporary. Death deletes it.
  2. Extracted into the hideout. Now it can be stashed, scanned, or printed.
  3. Scanned in the fabricator. The blueprint survives even if a later copy dies. The physical copy does not.

You “win” a raid when you reach a live extract point — Hab Rail platforms, Manorial extracts, and any other marked exfil the current build gives you — and complete the leave. You do not win by standing in a boss room with a full bag.

The Manorial / rail timer

Demo and Early Access coaching is unusually specific because players miss it:

  • Press B or Tab and look at the top of the HUD.
  • The Manorial Extract timer is the rail clock. When it is live, you have a window (footage showed on the order of a minute once the vehicle is actually there).
  • If you miss Manorial Extract, the game does not pause the universe. You must find a different extract.

That last line is the whole skill. People wait on an empty platform as if a delayed train will feel guilty. It will not. Rotate to the next known point or start a fighting retreat toward Hab Rail signage you already mapped.

The Hab Cluster Map is where those backups live. Do not enter a district unless you can name one extract inside it and one extract you can reach if the first dies.

How to play a timer, not a loot list

A disciplined raid looks like this:

  1. Pick the extract before the loot. “I am leaving through the rail I spawned near” is a plan. “I will see what happens” is a wipe.
  2. Loot on the way, not past the point of no return. Fabrics and blue items are the only things worth a detour.
  3. Watch the clock after every room. If the rail is boarding and you are two shafts away, you are already choosing the backup.
  4. Stop sorting inventory. Mag in, light on, move. Tetris is a hideout hobby.
  5. Be on the platform early. A minute is not a long time when an enemy occupies the stairs.

If the timer is already red in your head, drop low-value scanned duplicates to restore mobility. A brick of military fabric and one unscanned gadget beat four duplicate pistols.

Backup extracts and why the map is a Metroidvania

The Hab Cluster is an interconnected labyrinth, not a matchmade map with one helicopter. Medical, Bureau of Common Safety, and Hab Rail are districts in a web. Some routes open only after you have the right key, jump, or quest flag. That means:

  • A missed rail is not “raid failed” unless you also have no second point and no fight left in the kit.
  • Learning two ways out of medical is more valuable than learning a secret loot closet.
  • Boss rooms that sit past a one-way drop are extract traps. Read Boss Fights before you drop.

When you spawn, take ten seconds to landmark: rail poster, stair colour, a unique sign. Those landmarks are how you run a backup in the dark with a flashlight in the utility slot instead of a gun in your hand.

Death, stash, and what is actually gone

On death:

  • Run loot is gone.
  • Hideout stash remains.
  • Learned fabricator recipes remain.
  • Quest flags and map knowledge remain (this is still an RPG with 50+ quests and multiple endings, not a roguelike that wipes the save).

That mix is why scanning mid-raid can be correct. If you are holding an unscanned unique and you hear a boss music sting, duck to a field fabricator or accept that the blueprint may die with you. The Fabricator page covers scanning under pressure.

Do not confuse “I can reprint it” with “I extracted it.” Printing costs fabrics you also have to extract. A wipe that burns the only military bricks you owned is a double tax.

Food, water, and extracts that take too long

Long raids fail because hunger and thirst are quiet timers alongside the rail. Print consumables at the hideout. Carry a caloric converter only if you also carry calories; the gadget burns food to grant energized and regeneration. If you are three rooms from extract and starving, eat, do not loot another crate.

Darkness is the other silent timer. If you cannot see the platform, you will miss the train while fighting a silhouette. Flashlight discipline is on Controls and Gadgets.

Loadout that exists to leave

An extract kit is not a DPS kit:

  • Light you can use without holstering your only gun, if you have that gadget.
  • A mag already loaded (drag ammo in hideout, not on the platform).
  • One heal, one food.
  • Grid space for the bricks you came for.
  • Dodge stamina / attention left. Double-tap A/D still works when you are greedy; your decision-making might not.

Tick this against the Loadout Checklist and the cheap kits in Early Loadouts.

Common wipe stories (and the fix)

  • “I was one room away.” You were not. You were a fight, a ladder, and a dark corner away. Leave one room earlier.
  • “The extract vanished.” It timed out. Rotate. Hab Cluster Map for the next sign.
  • “I had too much loot to move.” Drop scanned duplicates. Keep fabrics and blues.
  • “I opened inventory on the platform.” Close it. The train does not wait on tetris.
  • “I fought the boss with the bag full.” Extract, stash, print, then boss. The boss will still be there. Your bag will not.

After you extract

Hideout order is not optional:

  1. Stash tab — park keepers.
  2. Fabricator — scan blues.
  3. Print food and mags.
  4. Only then admire the new gun on the Weapons Tier List.

Then go back in with a smaller ego and a named extract. The Beginner Walkthrough strings these habits into a first-hours route so you are not improvising the timer in a Bureau hallway.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

What happens if I miss the Manorial Extract timer?

You need another extract point. The rail will not wait. Look at the top of the HUD (B or Tab) and rotate using routes on the Hab Cluster Map.

Do I lose everything on death?

You lose unextracted run loot. Stash, scanned blueprints, and campaign progress stay. Scan blues before you take stupid fights.

Is there only one extract?

No. Hab Rail / monorail and Manorial points are the ones footage emphasises, and missing one forces you to find another. Learn two exits per district.

Should I extract before a boss?

If the bag is full of unscanned items and fabrics, yes. Stash, print, then fight. See Boss Fights.

Where do extracted items go?

Back to the hideout. Move them into stash, then scan leftovers in the Fabricator. Items left only in the run bag are still one death away from vanishing.
